The celebrated Saundersfoot restaurant was awarded the Best Seafood Restaurant in Wales in 2022 by The Welsh Hospitality Awards and is the first stop highlighted in the Lonely Planet guide. However, there are places the guide has missed off the list, like Paternoster Farm, the incredible restaurant you can barely find on a map serving up some of the best food in Wales ( read about it here) and Tap and Tan, which serves mouth-watering meat platters people say is the 'best food they've ever had' ( read our review here). And Lonely Planet agrees, with this being the only trail that features in Wales.
They say that a new wave of independent growers - vineyards, bakers, brewers, foragers, artisans and innovative chefs - have been working together to create a must-visit food scene. Tourism site Visit Pembrokreshire agrees saying: "Over many years, Pembrokeshire farmers and fishermen have built a fantastic reputation in Wales and across the UK for their high-quality produce." It features weekend 'gourmet trails' for every budget and taste bud. The introduction says that trail they have identified "spotlights the region's chefs and producers and their love of nature and reinvention". The Gourmet Trails Europe guide says that the food scene in the Welsh county is "booming like the Atlantic surf with producers and chefs playing up foraged flavours". The guide features the 'Rising Tides of Pembrokeshire' alongside the likes of experiences in Tuscany, San Sebastian and the Black Forest.
A Welsh food trail has featured in the latest Lonely Planet guide looking at the best gourmet food experiences in Europe.
